More and more label printers must be installed inside of Ex areas especially for quality control purposes. Until now that was only possible with great efforts and expensive special constructions, but the new ELBPrint series makes it possible to take the most different printer models into hazardous areas, simply and safely. Mostly the printer model, which had already been used in safe areas, can be employed again. Complicated software adaptations are problems of the past.
Function principle
Printers in an air sealed enclosure, which is filled with air or an inert gas, are situated in a zone free of explosive atmospheres. If the pressure inside the printer enclosure is at least 50 Pa (~0.5 mbar) higher than the ambient pressure, then explosive gas-air-mixtures are effectively prevented to enter the enclosure. After closing the door of the enclosure and switching on the supply voltage, there must surely not be any explosive gases inside the enclosure. This is guaranteed by an automatic "pre-purge phase", which purges the enclo-sure with air or inert gas in order to remove possibly existing explosive gases. A built-in Ex p controller inside of the printer enclosure supervises and controls all necessary functions of the overpressure encapsulation and connects the supply voltage to non-Ex devices automatically.
